A Three Step Offense In The Christian Warfare

Once you are aware that there is an enemy and who the enemy is, there are three things you are to do with the enemy.

First, I am to “wrestle with the enemy” For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places. Ephesians 6:12

Wrestling is offensive not just defensive. The object is not only to keep from getting pinned but also to pin your opponent.. To wrestle is to be engaged in a struggle to advance my position.

Then, resist the enemy. Therefore take unto you the armour of God, that you may be able to resist in the evil day...Ephesians 6:13

To resist or withstand is to defend against the advances of the enemy and drive him back. It is to refuse to give up the ground you have taken. If you can't advance and you can't drive the enemy back. Don't retreat. Hold the line!

The third thing is to stand. “...and having done all, to stand firmly in all things perfect” Ephesians 6:13b. To “stand” is not to pick a fight but to take a position by conviction. It implies militancy and determination. There must be a willingness to fight and endure hardness.

II Timothy 2:2-4 “And the things which thou hast heard of me by many witnesses, the same commend to faithful men, who shall be fit to teach others also. Labour and endure suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No man, being a soldier to God, entangleth himself with secular businesses; that he may please Him to whom hath enlisted him.”

A good soldier fights to pass on to the next generation “the same” as was delivered to him by the former generation. The same doctrine, the same standards, the same biblical prinicples, the same faith. He does so even when it is hard. He is “steadfast and unmoveable; always abounding in the work of the Lord.” I Corinthians 15:58. He has the militancy of a soldier and stays unentangled (seperated) with the world.
